Finished quilt size: 36" x 38"
Finished block size: 6-1/2" x 8-1/2"
Finished block size: 6-1/2" x 8-1/2"
Fabric Requirements & Cutting Instructions:
Print Fabric:
20 ~ 4 ½” x 6 ½” rectangles – scraps, fat quarters or fat eighths work great here.
Background Fabric:
3/4 yd. (I chose light blue to mimic the sky but any color will work)
B Cut 2 ~ 6 ½” x 42” strips. Now cut these strips down to 40 ~ 1 ½” x 6 ½” rectangles.
C Cut 2 ~ 2 ½” x 42” strips. Now cut these strips down to 40 ~ 2” x 2 ½” rectangles.
E Cut 1 ~ 3 ½” x 42” strip. Now cut this strip down to 20 ~ 1 ½”x 3 ½” rectangles.
F Cut 2 ~ 1” x 42” strips. Now cut these strips down to 80 ~ 1” squares.

G Cut 1 - 1 1/2" x 42" strip. This strip will be sewn onto the BOTTOM of the last row of jars.
(This basically separates the last row of jars from the bottom border piece).

Lid Fabric:
1/8 yd. (I prefer horizontal stripes but any color will work).
D Cut 1 ~ 3 ½” x 42” strip. Now cut this strip down to 20 ~ 1 ½” x 3 ½” rectangles.
Border fabric:
1/2 yd.
Cut 4 ~ 4" x 42" strips. Sew 2 border strips on OPPOSITE sides of quilt. Sew the remaining strips to OPPOSITE sides (top and bottom) of quilt.
Binding fabric:
1/3 yd.
Cut 5 ~ 2 1/4" x 42" strips.

Cut 5 ~ 2 1/4" x 42" strips.
Backing fabric:
1 - 1/4 yds x 44" width fabric
Jar Assembly:
This is your FIRST STEP. With a ruler and pencil, mark all 80 of the 1” squares on the wrong side of the fabric from corner to corner. Place one 1” square of background fabric onto each corner of your bug fabric (right sides together) and stitch on the drawn line. When the triangle is pressed open, you will have three layers of fabric in the corner of each jar. Trim away the center layer, leaving a ¼” seam allowance. You have taken out some of the bulk of the corner but left the integrity of the shape intact.
Block Assembly:
Assemble the blocks using ¼” seam allowance and by referring to the diagram.
1). Sew both side pieces (B) to bug rectangle (A).
2). Next sew lid (D) to top piece (E).
3). Now sew sides (C) to pieced section (D+E).
4) Sew section A+B to the bottom of section C+D/E.
5). Sew each block together in 4 rows of 5 (will be 5 rows wide by 4 rows tall).
Finished block size: 6 1/2" wide x 8 1/2" tall.
Add your desired borders to enlarge quilt.

Love this tutorial! Thank you so much!
How cute! Thank you!
I love that you have all the measurements noted. One question, in making the first couple of blocks I think that the pieces that are attached to the lid should be turned the other way on the pattern. I believe it is piece "c".
